Best Picture Books - Round 4

The Story of Ferdinand: 75th Anniversary Edition - Ferdinand is a peaceful bull who doesn't want to fight in the bull fights in Spain, but when he sits on a bumble bee he is chosen to fight. He looks so fierce.

Set in Africa, The Village of Round and Square Houses tells the story of why the women live in round houses and the men in square. Along with learning about tradition and culture of Cameroon, this books is a perfect companion for associated activities. Children could be inspired to color flags of Cameroon, talk about shapes, and learn about different types of volcanoes.

Robert McCloskey is one of my favorite children's book authors. Make Way for Ducklings
is only one of his extraordinary books. Set in Boston, Massachusetts a family of ducks searches for a home. Children learn a bit about duck habits and big cities through an entertaining story.

When King Laurence The Alarm Clock gets laryngitis the animals don't know when they are supposed to go to the watering hole. Instead of the herbivores and carnivores visiting at their designated times, they show up together. Find out how his laryngitis is cured and order is restored.

Very Last First Time
I didn't know that people walk beneath the ice of the frozen ocean when the tide goes out before reading this story. They actually look for food, but it is a dangerous hunt.

Katy No-Pocket - Katy is a kangaroo born without a pocket. She finds a unique way to carry her baby along with many others. This is a great story for pre-schoolers and other young children.
